چکیده
Abstract Intraoperative imaging is increasingly used by surgeons and has become an integral part of many surgical procedures. This study was performed to provide overview the current literature on intraoperative use cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) in maxillofacial surgery. A bibliographic search PubMed conducted March 2020, without time limitation, using "intraoperative imaging" AND "maxillofacial surgery" "cone tomography" as key words. Ninety-one articles were found; after complete reading, 16 met eligibility criteria analysed. The results showed that majority indications related trauma, particularly zygomaticomaxillary complex fractures. Final verification with CBCT before wound closure most common this device. However, innovative uses are expanding, such coupling mirror computational planning, even combined initial acquisition navigation. Immediate, fast, easy evaluation bone repositioning avoid need for further revision main advantage technique. Imaging quality comparable multi-slice tomography, but lower radiation exposure. Nevertheless, still not widely available centres, probably because its cost, perhaps everyone aware advantages versatility, which reported review.

background and aims. the imaging techniques commonly used for foreign body detection include plain radiography, xeroradiography, computed tomography (ct) scans, magnetic resonance imaging (mri) and ultrasonography. the aim of the present study was to compare cone-beam computed tomography (cbct) with conventional ct scan in determination of the exact location of a foreign body in the maxillofaci...
متن کاملCone-Beam Computed Tomography for Oral and Maxillofacial Imaging
The invention of computed tomography (CT) technique revolutionized diagnostic imaging. Compared to conventional X-ray imaging procedures, CT involves higher radiation doses. Recently, cone-beam CT (CBCT) specifically designed for maxillofacial imaging was introduced. CBCT technique is based on a cone-shaped X-ray beam centered on a twodimensional (2D) detector. The detector system performs one ...
متن کاملUse of intraoperative computed tomography for maxillofacial reconstructive surgery.
IMPORTANCE Intraoperative computed tomography (CT) provides surgeons with real-time feedback during maxillofacial trauma and reconstructive surgery, which can affect intraoperative decision making. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the time needed to perform intraoperative CT scans during maxillofacial surgery, determine any trend toward shorter total scan times as experience is gained with the techniqu...
متن کاملApplication of cone beam computed tomography in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
In the past decade, the utility of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images in oral and maxillofacial surgery has seen continuous increase. However, CBCT images are not always able to replace other imaging modalities. Based on the current published knowledge, this paper discusses advantages and limitations of CBCT images in the diagnosis and surgical planning of dentoalveolar procedures, odo...
